To the right is a list of
those courses that a student must complete for a Certificate in
Church History.
The Certificate in Church
History program provides a comprehensive overview of
the people, issues, and advancements of the
Church from the time immediately following the death of the Apostles
until today through consideration of each of its seven
distinct eras. The design of this
certificate program is to help students to identify the main themes
and events of the Church, to put the proper perspective into World
History, and to help identify root error and overcome modern error.
This certificate normally requires one academic year (two semesters)
to complete on a part-time basis (see
Suggested Schedule). Those who plan to complete the certificate
over two or more years can take one or two courses a semester. These
courses are not available in the summer session.
On successful completion
of this program, students:
1. Can identify and demonstrate the history of the Church;
2. Can identify important events, themes, and characters in the
history of the Church;
3. Can determine the effects of certain historical events on the
present Church; and
4. Choose to better appreciate the Church's rich 2000 history.
Upon entering the Certificate in Church History program a student is
assigned an adviser who will be available for program advisement and
career information. An adviser helps a student create a workable
plan to meet his or her educational objectives within a reasonable
time period.
For the conferring of the
certificate students should apply for graduation in the semester
they plan to graduate.
For graduation, a student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in
the 18 semester hours applicable to the certificate.
Students may obtain an
Application for
Graduation
from the Registrar. This application must be filed with the Registrar
by midterm for graduation that semester.
